We started this little design venture, in July of 2007, as sort of a happy birthday
event to fulfill a lifelong dream of designing the "who, what, when, where & why"
for ourselves.
Our goal is to offer highly personalized design solutions, great brands, beautiful
graphics and user friendly web applications with a definite nod to how much we love
this planet(especially in a place like Colorado). We love to experiment with new
software, new technologies and, if our spare time isn't spent in brainstorming new
ideas at the speed of light, new places to find inspiration.
We also have the good people and planet at heart when we work. From recycling every
scrap of paper in our office, to using safe cleaning products, our clients respect
and are inspired by the environmental choices we make. Passing on some of these
healthy ideas in our work, we offer 100% wind-powered web hosting, print services
that use recycled, FSC certified papers with soy inks and, even advice on greener
living. Our philosophy is to never push an agenda but, if you offer people an easy
and effortless alternative, there's a pretty darn good chance they'll take it.
Kelpworks Creative is the culmination of over 10 years of design experience, education,
family influence and a lifetime of artistic passion.
Born in Australia and spending her formative years in Cajun country before settling
in the Rocky Mountains, Karen is inspired by vibrant cultures, lush environments,
and remnants of the historical world. Although her style is deeply rooted in the
natural world, Karen’s lifelong interests in art, history, and cultures bring freshness
and flexibility to her designs.
When she isn’t busy designing everything at home and in the studio, Karen is out
riding the fabulous South Suburban trails, working on new projects with Michael,
or just goofing around with the plants and puppies.
If Karen is the design master, then Michael Pellegrin is the code keeper. He always
makes sure the best code is written and the "really smart math stuff" is done right.
As the studio's left brain creative, he's our resident genius with super strength
talents in web, game and user interface design.
Michael's excellence comes from his bachelor of fine arts in computer animation,
a master of science in telecommunications management and a lifetime of digital immersion.
If he isn't coming up with new games, new software or new methods of code & development,
Michael is rolling around the trails with Karen or brainstorming with his fellow
brainiacs.
... and we can't forget the endless attention that Newton gets from him in the studio.
Newton is our crazy half Jack Russell and half Cocker Spaniel studio mascot. He's
usually bouncing off of the walls (we'd swear he is made of rubber), tearing the
stuffing out of another toy or being lazy on our studio futon. Also, he's a big
kisser.
He's got a great job, too; Barking at the FedEx man (or dust. We're still not sure.)
and thoroughly destroying small, innocent moths. We love him to pieces though, and
he gives us an excuse to "step away from the computer" when our eyes start seeing
Smurfs, or we're ready to *zing* the wireless mouse across the room.
